— Days Without Shea —

This is all kinds of wrong...

Universal Pictures Stage Production has announced it is developing a theater version of Animal House. Casey Nicholaw, the Tony Award-winning director of "The Book of Mormon," will stage and choreograph the musical. Music will be written by...gulp...The Bare Naked Ladies.

What? Huh? I was almost able to accept this news until the Bare Naked part. Those boys had a couple OK tunes 20 years ago but what evidence suggests they are up for setting Bluto, Flounder and Dean Wormer to music?

For most Met fans, this clip was an all too familiar presence when we were trailing in late innings back at Shea Stadium:

Did I watch the big game between the Giants and the Patriots? Yes, yes I did.

What did I think?

This dude from Madonna's halftime show was awesome:

That is all.

So #MetsOnBroadway is a trending topic on Twitter today. The Twitterati are outdoing themselves mocking the Mets through bastardized show names.

Some examples:

The Light in the Piazza

How to Succeed in Baseball Without Really Playing

Annie Get Your Glove (And Can You Play SS?)

The Full Aspromonte

The Kenny Rogers Follies

The Threepenny Organization

Beatomania

American idiots

Phantom Of The Outfield (The story of Jason Bay)

Bye Bye Bernie

The Lion Kingman (Love that one!!!)

News from the music business world today, independent music publisher Spirit Music Group is acquiring the music catalog of Peter Townshend for an undisclosed amount.

As part of the deal, Mr. T. is selling his interest in the copyright to approximately 350 tunes, including "Baba O'Riley," "Pinball Wizard" and "Won't Get Fooled Again."

Why am I telling you this? So I have an excuse to post this vintage clip from The Who's appearance at Shea Stadium. Hard to believe this gig was 30 years ago. I can remember hearing this show from my childhood bedroom in Jamaica Queens, which is about 15 miles away from Shea.

So the Mets won't be in the post-season yet again. We've known that for awhile.

But it sure is nice that the Braves and Red Sox won't be there either.

And it sure is great that both of their late season collapses were more horrific than what the Mets accomplished in 2007 and 2008.

In that spirit, here's to this bit of crystal ball gazing from Wednesday night's  rain-delayed Sox/Orioles game:

Good job.
