We were at Citi Field Thursday night for Jon Niese's one-hitter masterpiece
Great night for a game, after Wednesday's stormy weather. Not a big crowd but good fans who knew they were seeing some history. Here's a picture of the mostly empty stadium, around the 4th inning. Note the beautiful sunset going on beyond the left field stands.
Niese was solid from right out of the gate, retiring for the first six Padres in order.
In the second inning, Ruben Tejada added to the night's history by grounding into a 5-4-3 triple play, with Barrajas on second and Francouer on first. The Mets got a runner to third with less than two outs in the first three innings but managed only three runs.
But lets not gripe. Niese was lights out all night. Just what we needed after Santana's matinee loss. The stars are aligned for R.A. Dickey to toss the first no-no tonight in Baltimore!
