The Mets put out a press lease today about Ike Davis
. Still no word on if Ike is in the starting lineup. The official lineuo should be out soon. Here is the release:
Mets first-base prospect Ike Davis is coming to the Major Leagues,
the club announced on Monday.
The team designated first baseman Mike Jacobs for assignment on Sunday
and recalled right-hander Tobi Stoner from Triple-A Buffalo. New York
could have optioned Jacobs but instead designated him to free up a spot
on its 40-man roster, which will now be filled by Davis, who is
scheduled to be available for Monday night's game against the Cubs.
Having used seven members of their bullpen in Saturday night's 20-inning
game against the Cardinals, the Mets needed an extra arm in case Sunday
starter John Maine didn't pitch deep into the game, so calling up
Stoner instead of Davis on Sunday was a temporary fix.
The Mets are hoping Davis can be more than that.
The 23-year-old left-handed hitter, rated the organization's No. 4
prospect by Baseball America, has hit .364 with two homers and three
doubles in 33 at-bats for Triple-A Buffalo this season. The Mets' 2008
first-round Draft pick (18th overall) impressed during Spring Training,
batting .480 with three homers and 10 RBIs in just 12 games. He also hit
.341 with four homers and 16 RBIs in 21 games in the prestigious
Arizona Fall League and was named to the circuit's All-Prospect Team.
Daniel Murphy, who was slated to start the year at first base, is
currently on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right knee and
isn't considered close to returning.
New York hasn't announced its corresponding 25-man roster move for
Davis, but it is likely that Stoner will be sent back down.

- Ike Davis is on his way!
Ike was scratched from the Bisons lineup at 12:24.
Kevin Burkhardt just said the Mets made it official. They will make the roster move later today and Ike will be at the stadium. No word yet on if he will be in the starting lineup.
Awesome news! And Kingman Sr and I will be out there. So will Run Hunt, who commented:"Ike is on the way!
While I'm not sure this is the right move, it's exciting no matter
how you look at it.
Kinda reminds me of when Strawberry was brought up to a terrible
team... but that was May.
Maybe Daniel Murphy is the new Wally Pip!"
