If only baseball was a six inning game...

Ollie Perez pitched a great 6.1 innings last night and the Mets were leading 1-0. That's when I was done shuttling kids around town to their Friday night engagements and settled in to watch the rest of the Met game.

I turned on the TV just in time to see Cardinals on 1st and 2nd with one out. I tuned in just in time to hear the announcers point out that this was the first time in 2010 the Mets were protecting a close lead late in the game. This will be a good test for the bullpen, said our Keith.

Re-test scheduled for today.

Nieve and Valdes very efficiently loaded up the bases then gave up the grand slam to Felipe Lopez.

I was wondering why those two guys specifically were out there in the 7th. If we weren't going to see Pedro Feliciano, why not Takahashi or Igarashi, who were touted all spring as 7th inning guys? Matthew Cerone pointed out this morning that Pedro was ill with a stomach bug last night but MetsBlog also questioned the pitching selection. Says MetsBlog: "The Mets lost last night with their best possible players on the field, which, to me, is one of the worst ways to lose..."

Totally agree. So the 3-7 Mets play the Cards at 4:10 today, Johan vs. Jaime Garcia.
