I'll be at a few more games this season before Shea Stadium's untimely demise, but I may not again make it to field level after today.
As I scrambled out of the box seats before game time, I took a few photos of the most beautiful playing field on earth:

The Mets announced today was a sellout. But Shea never filled up. At best, there were 35,000 folks in the stadium. Not cool.

In six months, this will all be parking. My mind can't process that concept:

And after this weekend, the Mets are now only one game up in the NL East. The forecast calls for not much sleeping or appetite the next two weeks.
So farewell, Shea Stadium field level. We never got to know each other very well but you will be missed just the same.
