Citi Field sign 080608The Mets are now offering a 2008 Pennant Race Pack. What does this get you?

    *  The final 15 Regular Season games ever to be played at Shea Stadium.
    * Be there as the Mets fight for Postseason play with series against all Division rivals and Lou Pinellas' Chicago Cubs.
    * The opportunity to purchase your seats for all potential 2008 Postseason games at Shea.
    * Priority for Full Season Tickets in Citi Field for the 2009 Regular Season.

The devil is in the details, however. In the fine print, we find this:
The Pennant Race Pack includes your commitment - with a non-refundable $250 per seat deposit - to a Season Ticket purchase of the same number of seats at Citi Field for 2009.

You are not just buying these 15 games. You are committing to a full season next year, in seats yet to be determined.

Interesting that the ticket office is still holding onto great seats for the last game ever at Shea. Going through the purchase process, I was offered a Mez box in Section 22 and 3rd row of an upper deck box in Section 18. We bought the "last game at Shea" seven-pack in March and could barely get seats inside the stadium (Sec 44, just below the airplanes).

Of course, I hope we continue to have a great pennant race but heaven forbid history repeats itself and this September resembles last September. There will be some PO'ed Pennant Race Packers at these last games. But fortunately, there's no chance of another historic collapse. Not with our bullpen.

Ah... the fine print. Let us disect what is in the fine print:

From the Club's web site:
"The Pennant Race Pack includes your commitment - with a non-refundable $250 per seat deposit - to a Season Ticket purchase of the same number of seats at Citi Field for 2009. Your deposit may not be applied as a credit toward any other purchase, including without limitation the following: the purchase of postseason tickets in 2008, the renewal of any existing Season Ticket or Ticket Plan account or any non-Season Ticket purchase for 2009. You will forfeit your deposit if you do not fully satisfy your commitment with respect to the Season Ticket purchase in accordance with the payment schedule to be established by the Mets. Your deposit, or any portion thereof, may not be refunded, transferred or assigned to any other person or entity under any circumstances. There is a limit of eight seats per Pennant Race Pack customer and account. A Mets representative will contact you at a later date regarding your seat location for Citi Field. Season Ticket prices for 2009 start at $1,539 per seat. All Citi Field seat locations are assigned at the discretion of the New York Mets, and the Mets reserve all rights to establish Season Ticket prices, account holder privileges, and all other terms and conditions, on a year-to-year basis."

I have highlighted interesting portions of the disclaimer.

1. It would seem the Mets are entertaining partial plans in the new Stadium.

2. The cheapest tickets that can be bought via a full-season plan will sell for $19/game. 19 x 81 = $1539. We know those won't be for good seats behind the plate.

There still must be seats available.....

The sky is not falling.
