I had a great time at the game Thursday. Thanks to the Loge13’ers who lent me their tickets. I brought my boys to their first game of the year. It was also the first visit ever for my youngest son. We got there about two hours before the first pitch and managed to stay to the end.
On top of that, the Mets won 7–3 over the Giants. John Maine was rough and Barry Zito wasn’t much better. Fernando Tatis gave the Mets the lead for good with a two-run homer in the 6th.
Some non-game highlights included getting autographs from Pedro Feliciano. I have to say Pedro is the most gracious Met when it comes to signing. We always come early and Pedro has never failed to accomodate. There was no batting practice before Thursday’s game and only Pedro, Joe Smith and Carlos Muniz were on the field warming up. Smith and Muniz went into the bullpen but Pedro ran over to the fans out in left field, put down his glove and started signing and stayed there for a good 20 minutes or more.
We got over close to him near the “StubHub” seats. My middle son through down his hat to the grounds crew guy helping Pedro. Then Pedro looked up to my oldest son, saw he had a baseball and just gestured for him to throw it. Pedro signed it, then through it back to Ben, who caught it and can now say he has played catch with a New York Met.
Also during the game, the Pepsi Party Patrol came to Loge13, which didn’t ever happen before this year. This time they handed out “Bubba Burger” shirts and then had everyone hold them up while they scanned Loge13 on DiamondVision. My middle son was the first person seen on the screen so he was thrilled.
The one goal my youngest son had that day was to meet Mr. Met. That encounter did not go as well. We saw Mr. Met over around Loge 19 so I grabbed my son and headed down the tunnel to corner our favorite mascot. But as soon as Mr. Met came by, my boy wilted into my leg and wouldn’t even look at his baseball headed hero. Ah well.
