The first of the last subway series at the old Yankee & Met homes was washed out Friday night.
But I got this e-mail overnight from Loge 13 original Ross Jones:
It might have been a miserable night for the Subway Series, but it was a perfect night for the Freeway Series here in Southern California.
I have no idea what Ross was doing out there in CA but thanks for the photo!
Meanwhile all the chatter in Met territory seems to be about Billy Wagner and the closed door team meeting the players had Friday night.
Wagner tweaked either his teammates or the media (or both) after Thursday’s 1–0 loss to the Nationals. Randolph downplayed Billy’s comments and his teammate’s muted reactions. Wagner is kind of a motor mouth but at least someone is showing some fire in the clubhouse.
It may seem odd that the closer has to be the voice of disgust but bullpen blowhards are kind of a Met tradition. Franco. Tug McGraw. Supposedly Skip Lockwood cursed a mean streak, no doubt in a constant state of hostility brought on by his rather lame nickname. Yes it is only May and as Willie Randolph says at almost every press conference, this is baseball not a 16 game football season. But this team is wallowing atm and it will be a long, unpleasant final Shea Stadium season if this team meanders in mediocrity the next four months.
A nice two-game sweep of the Spankees in their doomed home would help. Game time = 1:05.
