— Days Without Shea —

by Kingman on February 26 at 7:57PM

Pelfrey-709447The Mets start their Spring Training 2008 exhibition schedule Wednesday against the Detroit Tigers. Baseball is getting started again.

Forget Ground Hogs day. This game means spring is just about here. When Pelfrey takes the mound and sees his shadow tomorrow, a new season has begun.

Sadly, it will also mean there are only 214 days left until the last official game at Shea Stadium. But lets not go there just now.

More game details from Marty Noble:

Mike Pelfrey, competing for a place in the Mets' starting rotation, is to start, opposite Jeremy Bonderman in the 1:05 p.m. ET game. But few regulars will make the trip for the Mets, who are to play the Cardinals in Jupiter on Thursday before playing their first game at home, Friday against the Cardinals.

Right fielder Ryan Church, reserve catcher Ramon Castro and Marlon Anderson are to make the trip to Lakeland. Inclement weather is forecast. More regulars are likely to play Thursday.

Besides Pelfrey, the Mets will bring three pitchers, who probably will figure in the Opening Day plans -- middle relievers Matt Wise and Jorge Sosa and left-handed setup man Pedro Feliciano.

And if you haven’t already, go over to SpringTrainin08.com. DepressedFan.com Brian has built THE Compendium to every team’s Spring Training. You will love it. Or my name is not Kingman.

Actually my name’s not Kingman but you get the idea…
