— Days Without Shea —

The news that Billy Joel is closing Shea Stadium garnered alot of press this week. But it didn’t exactly generate alot of excitement.

No offense to BJ but we’re talking about Shea Stadium here. This is hallowed rock and roll ground, people. Peruse our “Shea Rocks” section if you need to be convinced. There is no other arena on earth still standing that can claim as performers The Beatles, The Stones, The Who, The Clash, Joan Jett, The Rutles, Paul Simon, CCR, Grand Funk Railroad, The Police (yes I put The Police after Joan Jett) and many, many more. And lets not forget Jon from Mets by the Numbers (mbtn.net).

Billy Joel is perfectly fine. But he stopped playing the rock a dozen years back. Paul McCartney was shaking his money maker before Joel started rocking, and Mac is shaking it long after Joel ceased rolling.

So an online petition was started just the other day to get Paul and Ringo to play at Shea. Here’s the link and logo:

I’ve signed. Go ahead and sign. Stranger things have happened. The Mets aren’t moving the Apple but maybe they’ll listen to this petition.

 Rock & Roll!

While you might personally think Grand Funk & Jett belong ahead of the Police, Sting is 200% the song writer Joan & Mark Farner ever were.

AND the Rutles never really gigged anywhere ;)

Technically, the Rutles played at Che Stadium, not Shea. When they tear down Che, I'll do another blog.
