— Days Without Shea —

The Bobster sent along these very early photos of Shea Stadium, under construction:

This was probably about 1963. Shea actually looks pretty modern at this stage, before rhey added bunting or the blue & orange aluminum zits on the facade.

I wonder if anyone at the time said, “Save a little room on the sides. We may want to add some giant neon ballplayers someday. Or a giant banner with inspiring slogans like ‘The Magic Is Back!’”.

Looks as if these were taken from the Gate D (behind 3rd base, based on daylight one can see on the left edge of the stadium), so I'd guess the point of clicking was between Roosevelt Ave and Northern Blvd, near the GCP, south of what is now the traffic circle.
