We’re back from a great vacation. Besides leaving town, we also left behind newspapers, Internets et al.
We did sneak a peak at some Met scores once in a while and my kids got to go with their grandparents to Loge13 last week for the two Padre losses, even sitting through the 10–inning Heilman home run affair.
With summer vacation over, the pennant race officially begins. The Mets are on the road trip that could determine the NL East champion. We play the Phils, Braves and Reds before returning to Shea next week.
Really the road trip begins today. Brian Lawrence got eaten alive by the Phillies Monday night. The Phils know they are playing for their lives and amassed 17 hits in their 9–2 victory. Chase Utley went 3–5 in his return from the DL.
Glavine takes the hill tonight. If his goal is to gain a World Series ring and retire in 2007, then he should be motivated to pitch his game of the season tonight and get the Mets back to 6 games up. The Phillies, meanwhile, may be throwing Adam Eaton.
