— Days Without Shea —

Since posting nothing but Ace Frehley tunes here on Loge13, the Mets have gone on an impressive 2 game winning streak. In honor of the Mets finally breaking out, here’s “Breakout:“

Saturday’s game was a classic pitcher’s duel. El Duque shook off his demons from previous starts and kept the A’s off balance through seven strong innings. The highlight was when, with men on first and second, Willie came out in the 7th to remove Hernandez. Orlando fought him off, remained in the game and struck out the last batter to end the inning.

Castro led off the bottom of the 9th with a double. After Beltran walked, Wright hit a sinking liner into right field, which Travis Buck misplayed. The way the Mets greeted Catro at home plate, one might have thought we had clinched the division (or that the Wilpons had decided not to tear down Shea Stadium). But it’s good to see the Mets playing with, and showing, emotion.

Except LoDuca. Paul got himself thrown out of the game for arguing balls and strikes. Unfortunately, he had a minor freak-out and had to be restrained from going after the home plate umpire by teammates and coaches. As he left the dugout, he threw his catching gear onto the field. Unfortunately, the pitch he got thrown out for arguing on was a strike.

The Mets and Johnny Maine go for the sweep at Shea this afternoon.
