Loge13 came across this tasty thread about dining recommendations near Shea Stadium.
There is plenty of good local food in the neighborhoods around the ball field. The Chinese food in Flushing is highly regarded. I know some aficionados of Asian cuisine who don’t go to New York’s Chinatown anymore, opting instead for the more authentic offerings in Queens.
Corona also has a few good options, but that’s not the best place to wander before or after a night game. (BTW, a friend of Loge13 reported that an acquaintance of hers had her car stolen from a Shea parking lot during Wednesday night’s game. Not sure which parking lot yet but we’ll find out).
In a few years, after Shea’s demise, President Bloomberg will order an occupying force into the Iron Triangle. The government will tear down the car shops and replace them with plenty of Applebee’s and Ruby Tuesdays. I’m sure that’s bad news for the local restaurateurs who now make good money from Met fans (and from the hundreds of employees who work in the Iron Triangle).
