One look at the schedule last weekend made Loge13 a bit leary. A three-game set with the Phile, then a road trip to Detroit and LA before coming back for three games against the Spankees.
With Alou, Green and Beltran hurting, this would be the biggest test for the Mets since April.
So far the test results are hurting.
After last night’s 4–2 loss to the Phils, the Mets have lost three straight for the first time all season.
Worse than that, Endy Chavez – our most consistent backup outfielder, suffered a nasty hamstring tear and had to be helped off the field during the defeat.
Beltran is back in the lineup (but not at 100%) and Green may be back by Sunday. But Easley is also hurting (tendinitis). Meanwhile, the Mets have to now dig even deeper to find a replacement outfielder. One report has Ricky Ledee getting called up from New Orleans. Down south, Ledee is hitting .282 with 8 home runs and 38 RBI’s.
Tonight should be a great pitcher’s duel: Cole Hamels (8–2. 3.55 ERA) vs. John Maine (6–3. 2.81 ERA).
