— Days Without Shea —

Torre_MetPlayerJoe Torre may be having a bad weekend but 32 years ago today, he had a good day.

Torre got his first homer as a Met and collected four hits in a 6–2 victory over the Reds in Cincinnati.

Besides the home run, Torre had a double and 3 RBI’s, and played both 1st and 3rd base during the game.

Jerry Koosman went 7.2 innings for the win and ace closer of the day Bob Apodaca got his 3rd save. Don Gullett took the loss.

Although Torre had a good day, he was having a tough year, only hitting .237 by May 20. The Mets had picked Torre up in the off-season in a trade with the St. Louis Cardinals for Ray Sadecki and Tommy Moore.
