Joe Torre may be having a bad weekend but 32 years ago today, he had a good day.

Torre got his first homer as a Met and collected four hits in a 6–2 victory over the Reds in Cincinnati.

Besides the home run, Torre had a double and 3 RBI’s, and played both 1^st and 3^rd base during the game.

Jerry Koosman went 7.2 innings for the win and ace closer of the day Bob Apodaca got his 3^rd save. Don Gullett took the loss.

Although Torre had a good day, he was having a tough year, only hitting .237 by May 20. The Mets had picked Torre up in the off-season in a trade with the St. Louis Cardinals for Ray Sadecki and Tommy Moore.
