— Days Without Shea —

Oliver_movieOliver Perez couldn’t make it out of the 3rd inning tonight.

Inconsistency has been the hallmark of his career and Oliver’s two starts so far in 2007 couldn’t be any different. After striking out 6 and walking none in seven innings against Atlanta, Oliver walked 7 Phillies Wednesday.

He loaded the bases up twice, escaping damage in the second. But after walking in two runs in the third, Oliver hit Phils catcher Barajas to end his night.

Eaton meanwhile, who was a disaster in his first start, is keeping Met hitters at bay on a cold night at Shea.

It was understood when we got Oliver Perez that he was “a work in progress.” But how long does it take before a work in progress works out or is diagnosed a “lost cause?” Perez essentially forgot entirely how to pitch Wednesday and looked like a head case on the mound. If his psyche is still this fragile, perhaps a few starts in New Orleans might be in order. Let Sele have a couple starts while Perez gets a grip in Triple A.

This is crazy talk! Just as voting Perez the Cy Young after his first start is nuts, this idea of dismissing him after yesterday stinks, it's April 12!!

Maybe our manager, Mr. Crankee, could have the vision to clearly see the guy had nothing yesterday and have a quicker hook!
