While perusing the Web for some ex-Met highlights, I came across this trailer for a new documentary, “Champions of Faith: Baseball Edition”:

The movie profiles Mike Piazza, Jeff Suppan, Jack McKeon, Tom Glavine and others and according to their site, showcases “the intersection of sports and faith in Major League Baseball.” The film was produced by the Catholic Exchange; the producer helped distribute “The Passion of the Christ.” “Champions of Faith” premiered in Arizona a few weeks back:

By leaving St. Louis for the Brewers, Suppan proved he possesses a deep and courageous faith.

As for Piazza, a few years back, while buying a Christmas tree at The Garden Center in Queens, I ran into a priest wearing the nicest Met jacket I had ever seen. Turns out, he was the Mets team’s chaplain. He told some good stories and said at he holds a Sunday mass at Shea every weekend. The only guy who consistently showed up was Piazza. I’d be curious to see if mainstream media picks up on this film.
