ElDuque_smallThe Mets dropped one to The Nationals Saturday, 6–2. Today’s game is washed out and not yet rescheduled.

Hernandez simply had a bad day. He had little control, giving up three walks and three home runs in five innings of work. He also hit winning pitcher Shawn Hill, for which he was ejected, although it didn’t look deliberate. El Duque only hit 12 guys last year (though he was hurt alot); he’s hit two already in 2007.

The starting pitching has not been as sharp the second time through the rotation.  Nevertheless, the team is still first in the NL with a 2.69 ERA and first in fewest hits allowed (69) and runs allowed (32).

Most of the time when they’ve lost, they’ve been out-pitched or have under-hit. And whenever Reyes goes 0–5, as he did Saturday, this team is bound to lose.
