Jc_in_braves_shirtIt’s only the 4th game of the season, Mets fans need to remind themselves. But can it get better than this?

Beating the undefeated Braves in their home opener last night was just one of the highlights. The best news was that Oliver Perez pitched seven stellar innings, and probably would have come out in the 8th if the Mets hadn’t sent 12 men to the plate in the top of the inning (Perez hit for himself and got a single). We’ve seen the rotation once now (minus Pelfrey) and things couldn’t be better.

The top of the order continues to pound the ball. Reyes had two triples and has seven RBI’s already this season. The Brave bullpen, meanwhile, looks as suspect as it did last year. We can’t comment on the Mets bullpen too much since we haven’t had the pleasure of seeing it alot so far.

Even ex-Mets had a great Friday night.

  • Kaz Matsui hit an RBI triple to help the Rockies beat the Padres 4–3 last night.
  • Chad Bradford struck out A-Rod with two on and no out in last night’s Yankee loss. But striking out A-Rod in key game situations doesn’t much count for news anymore.

Meanwhile, Piazza hit a game-winning home run Thursday night. The stars are aligned for Mets past and present this weekend (Hint: Steve Trachsel - don't embarrass yourself).Glavine-Smoltz today. Maybe it can get even better.

And say what you will about Jimmy Carter but he’s a real fan. The ex-President and his wife sat in the wintry weather through the entire Braves massacre last night. His secret service must get combat pay for that duty.
