Sunday night's opener was a satisfying start for the boys in Blue & Orange. And a strong rebuke against most every criticism I had in my last post.
The Mets turned four double plays and never let the Cardinals get in the game offensively. Valentin made a nice pivot on the first DP and possibly saved the game in the 8th inning when, with the bases loaded, he stretched out to rob Rolen of a single and start a 4-6-3 double play which killed the last threat.
Meanwhile, old man Alou made a nice sliding catch in the 6th inning, hit the ball hard and even went 1st to 3rd on a weak Shawn Green single in the 2nd. Green, meanwhile, went 2-4 and didn't embarrass himself on the field.
LoDuca had 3 RBI's and Delgado 2. Our ace Glavine is 9 wins closer to retirement and LaRussa is juicing up for a long, wobbly ride home. Everybody Sing Along!!!
